YWCA to Present 28th Women of Distinction Awards Luncheon
HAMPTON ROADS
Eleven women from throughout South Hampton Roads will be honored on Thursday, April 28, during the 28th annual YWCA South Hampton Roads Women of Distinction Awards Luncheon. The event will be held at noon at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott. All of the women selected exemplify the YWCA’s mission to eliminate racism and empower women.
Barbara Hamm Lee, Executive Producer and Host of WHRO’s Another View, and chair of the YWCA South Hampton Roads Women of Distinction committee, will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies for the event.
This year’s honorees are:
Arts: Kelly Harlan, Marketing Director,Virginia Arts Festival
Business: Carol H. Ormond, CEO, AAA of Tidewater
Communications: Sally Kirby Hartman, VP of Communications, Hampton Roads Community Foundation
Education: Edna V. Baehre-Kolovani, Ph.D., President, Tidewater Community College
Finance: Charity A. Volman, President, SunTrust Bank, South Hampton Roads Market
Government: The Hon. Marlene Randall, Retired, Portsmouth City Council
Law: Sharon S. Goodwyn Counsel,Hunton & Williams, LLP
Military: Laura Baxter, General Manager and Publisher, Military Newspapers of Virginia
Non-Profit: Sharon D. Houston, Deputy Director, The Garden of Hope
Science/Technology: Jennifer Boykin, Vice President-Engineering, Newport News Shipbuilding
Volunteerism: Shannon Kendrick, District Director, Scott Rigell Congressional Office
“This wonderful group of women selected for recognition this year are leaders in our communities and workplaces,” said Barbara Hamm Lee, chair of the Women of Distinction committee. “We are pleased that we continue to have a great group of honorees to recognize from throughout South Hampton Roads.”
This year’s honorees will join the more than 350 women who have been recognized by the YWCA-South Hampton Roads since 1989 for their accomplishments and extraordinary contributions to their profession and their community.
The presenting sponsor of the 2016 YWCA South Hampton Roads Women of Distinction Awards Luncheon is ARDX, a Norfolk-based corporation specializing in technology and management solutions for both government and private industry clients. Dominion Virginia Power is the event’s platinum sponsor.
