Social and Civic Whirl: Important Information and Dates For High School Students

Ola Goss
As Willie Lee has stated, “A college education is still an affordable choice for most families.” According to Mr. Lee, counselors and most educators, colleges are looking for students who need help finding the resources they need to attend college. Willie Lee suggest that you take the following two simple extremely important steps which could mean money for you receiving a higher education: (1) take the scheduled 2016 PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10 exam (see your high school counselor for assistance or details); (2) say “Yes” to student search service when you fill out your answer sheet on test day. The next date for this all important test is November 2, 2016. (11th graders please, please sign up with your counselor as soon as possible. Fee waivers are possible for eligible low-income 11th graders.

Mr. Lee continues with this important information by stating some very beneficial reasons for taking the PSAT/NMSQT. Some notable reasons are as follows: (1) you are automatically screened for the National Merit Scholarship Program; (2) it provides great practice for taking the SAT; (3) you receive personalized feedback which will help you improve your skills for taking the SAT; (4) it connects you with colleges and universities that are looking for smart young people looking to better themselves; (5) money is available for qualified low- income and minority students; and (6) the National Scholarship service offers a free college advisory and referral service for 11th grade African-American students.

Test dates for seniors are December 3, 2016 for the SAT; however, you must register by November 3, 2016. The Link is see subject tests register. You must register by November 4, 2016 to take the ACT on December 10, 2016. Check Link register. It would be advisable for you to check with you high school counselor prior to these registration deadlines of November 3, 2016/SAT; and November 4, 2016/ACT.
