Social and Civic Whirl: First Baptist Church Bute Street’s Quinley House
First Baptist Church located on Bute Street in Norfolk is in the process of rehabilitating a house in the Lindenwood section of Norfolk for homeless female veterans with children. The house which is located at 1044 Lindenwood Avenue was bequeathed to First Baptist Church by, former member, Vanetta Morgan Quinley. Known as the Quinley House Project which will be, according to the project committee, the first and only home designed and established for homeless female veterans with children, in the area.
The First Phase of the rehabilitation project, which is almost completed, consisted of planning, designing and fundraising. On Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 2 p.m., there will be a program announcing the beginning of Phase II of the Quinley House Project at the 1044 Lindenwood Avenue location. At the ceremony, persons will be shown a rendering of the exterior and a diagram of the projected interior design. Information will also be presented concerning the March 2016 completion date and the planning of Phase III – move-in.
Volunteer help and contributions are still welcomed. For more information contact Charlotte Maull at (757) 622.6701 or email mcarter@firstbaptistnorfolk.org.
