PBS Journalist To Speak At NSU Commencement

Journalist Yamiche Alcindor, currently a White House Correspondent for the PBS NewsHour, will deliver the keynote address at Norfolk State University’s 2019 Spring Commencement Ceremony at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, at William “Dick” Price Stadium on campus where nearly 500 students are expected to earn their undergraduate or advanced degrees.

Alcindor, covers the White House and U.S. President Donald Trump for the PBS NewsHour, which airs on weeknights at 7 p.m. on the public television channel. While at PBS, Alcindor has directly questioned President Trump on several occasions and has traveled extensively to places like Belgium for the 2018 North Atlantic Treaty Organization meeting, to Helsinki, Finland, as the president met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and to the border of the United States and Mexico to chronicle the impact of the administration’s family separation policy. 

In addition to her duties at PBS, Alcindor also serves as a political contributor on NBC News and MSNBC. She regularly appears on programs such as Morning Joe, Andrea Mitchell Reports, Hardball with Chris Matthews and Meet the Press with Chuck Todd.

In addition to undergraduate students who will earn their college diplomas, Norfolk State University administrators will present more than 100 master’s degrees to graduate-level students and four doctoral degrees. Also during the ceremony, several Navy ROTC and Army ROTC students will take their oath of commissioned officers for their respective military branches.
