Mrs. Catherine Hendricks Celebrated On Occasion Of 100th Birthday!
PORTSMOUTH
Catherine Hendricks of Portsmouth, VA was honored with love on her 100th birthday by her family, friends and church members on Sunday, July 22nd at Zion Baptist Church where Dr. Kelvin Turner is the Senior Pastor. The location for Zion Baptist Church is 225 Hatton St.
A life-long resident of Portsmouth, Mrs. Hendricks worked as a Beautician for decades graduating from the Madam Mitchell Beautician class of 1950. She is a 1937 graduate of Norcom High School and was recognized for her service to her church where she served on the Deaconess Board, Ladies Usher Board, Finance Ministry, Baptismal Ministry, Church School, Pastor Aides, and in the Choir.
She is a founding member of Mary/Catherine Flower Ministry; Jewels Children’s Ushers; & Martha Douglas Missionary Circle. She also faithfully served for over 20 plus years on the Oasis Ministry and Meals on Wheels as well as a volunteer with the school system as a school monitor.
She is a member of the Martha Chapter #10 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Other involvements include but are not limited to working with voter registration and manning the local voting poll as well as numerous other activities over her century of life.
Highlights of the event included the a beautiful floral arrangement of 100 balloons that were presented to Mrs. Hendricks; acknowledgement from Virginia’s Governor Northam; and numerous tributes from her family and friends from throughout the country.
The church was presented with a financial gift to continue the work of Catherine and her mother and grandmother with missionary work.
