Wreath Laying Ceremony

The Norfolk District African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church will host a wreath laying ceremony at  the MLK monument Jan.14 at 2 p.m. A processional will begin from the Greater Metropolitan AME Zion Church at 822 Brambleton Ave. at 1:30 pm and proceed to the Monument at Church and Brambleton Ave.

Virginia Symphony At Calvary Revival

The Virginia Symphony Orchestra will pay homage to MLK on Jan. 14  at 7 p.m. with Orchestral music at the Calvary Revival Church at 5833 Poplar Hall Drive in Norfolk.

Newport News Parade

The 2018 Newport News MLK Parade will be held January 14 at 1:45 p.m. along Tabbs  to Warwick Blvd to the Sherwood Plaza Intersection.

Presidential and MLK Ambassadors Ceremony

The Connectional Ministries  and Mission 2000 and G. Paris Media group will be hosting the Presidential and MLK  Ambassadors  for Service Awards Jan. 14  at 2 p.m. at he Indian River Library in Chesapeake, Virginia.

January 15

Community Leaders Breakfast

The Urban League of Hampton Roads’ 34th Annual MLK Community Leaders  Breakfast will be Jan. 15 at 8 a.m. at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott. The keynote speaker is Dr. ruth Jones Nichols.

Annual MLK Day At Attucks Theatre

The City of Norfolk will host its annual  MLK Day observance Jan. 15 at 9:30 a.m.  at the Historic Attucks Theater at 1010 Church Street.

MLK Breakfast At Grace Episcopal

Dr. Williams Spriggs, son of the late Tuskegee Airman, Dr.  Thurman Spriggs, will be the keynote speaker at the annual MLK  celebration Breakfast  at Grace Episcopal Church in Norfolk on Jan. 15 at 9 a.m.

January 16

Dr. Michelle Alexander, author of the “The New Jim Crow in the Age of Colorblindness” which  describes the mass of incarceration of Black men will be the keynote speaker at ODU’s MLK Commemoration on Jan. 16 at 7 p.m.in the Blue Room of the Ted Constant Center.

January 20

Brigadier General Farris C. Hill  of the U.S. Air Force will be the keynote speaker at the 14th annual MLK  Scholarship Breakfast hosted by the  Epsilon Nu Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc., Jan. 20 at 9 a.m. at the Edmonds Center at 2714 Frederick Blvd in Portsmouth.

During the event the Dr. Hugo A. Madison Humanitarian Awards will be bestowed on Kimberly Wimbush and Dr. Kelvin Turner.
