May 18: Discussion To Enhance Job Diversity and Inclusion

HAMPTON ROADS
Jonathan C. Zur, president and CEO of the nonprofit Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities, will discuss “Enhancing Diversity and Staff Inclusion in Your Office” with the Hampton Roads Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America on May 18, from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., at The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center, 1401 Ballentine Blvd., Norfolk.
A wide body of research shows that organizations that are more inclusive are more successful. These organizations are able to maximize the potential of their workforce, engage new ideas for innovation and reach out to diverse segments of the community.
This interactive presentation and discussion will help attendees consider strategies for enhancing diversity and inclusion in their communication efforts, while considering common pitfalls to be avoided. They will leave with heightened awareness of the subtleties of bias, along with practical ways that they can enhance a spirit of inclusion within their workplaces and in the community. Discussion Topics include Foundations of Diversity and Inclusion; Personal Reflections / Exploring Unconscious Bias; Skill Building through Critical Literacy; and Case Studies to Apply Learning.
The Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities is a nonprofit organization that works with schools, business and communities to achieve success through inclusion. Under Zur’s leadership, VCIC increased the number of programs delivered annually by nearly 500 percent, and the organization has been recognized locally and nationally for its effectiveness. He has presented at a number of national conferences on issues of diversity and inclusion.
