HU Journalism Professor Awarded

HAMPTON
The American Journalism Historians Association recently awarded its National Award for Excellence in Teaching to Wayne J. Dawkins, a journalism professor at Hampton University.
An honorarium of $500 accompanies the prize. Dawkins will accept the award Oct. 6 at the group’s annual convention in St. Petersburg, Fla. Dawkins who has written extensively, is the author of the 2012 book, City Son: Andrew W. Cooper’s Impact on Modern-Day Brooklyn. He co-authored the March 2016 Columbia Journalism School newsletter, The Black Ivy Influencer with Dr. Todd S. Burroughs.
Dawkins, who earned a master’s degree in journalism at Columbia University, began at the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications in 2005. He has won numerous awards including the Edward L. Hamm Sr. Distinguished Teaching Award (2011); the Columbia University Alumni Federation Award (2004); and Columbia University’s Distinguished Journalism Alumni Award (1990).
