6. How many tricks must declarer take to fulfill the contract? How many sure tricks does declarer have?
7. Which suit provides declarer with the opportunity to develop the additional tricks needed to make the contract?
8. Which suit should declarer play after winning the first trick? Why?
9. Will declarer make the contract?


1. N=17 points; S=10 points; E=9 points; W=4 points
2. North opens the bidding. Opening bid would be 1 No Trump
3. South is responder. His bid is 3 No Trump
4. 3 No Trump is the contract. North is declarer and South is dummy.
5. East makes the opening lead. The opening lead is ♣Q
6. Declarer must take 9 tricks to fulfill the contract. Declarer has 6 sure tricks
7. The diamond suit provides the best opportunity to develop the 3 additional tricks needed to make the contract
8. Declarer needs to play diamonds after taking the first trick so that declarer can set the diamond suit up while there are still winners in the other suits.
