5th Annual 900 Men Strong Breakfast
HAMPTON ROADS
The 5th annual 900 Men Strong Scholarship and Community Service Awards Breakfast will be held on April 16, 2016 at the Chesapeake Conference Center, beginning at 8:30 a.m. This year’s breakfast will feature as keynote speaker Lieutenant General William “Kip” Ward U.S. Army (Ret).
The annual networking event for men has delivered over $35,000 in scholarships to high school boys attending college, attracted over 1,900 men and boys in attendance, and recognized 20 men with the distinguished W. H. Gray Community Service Award.
Five men will be honored for their contributions toward helping youth and others throughout Hampton Roads. They are U.S. Congressman Robert “Bobby” Scott; Dr. Harrison B. Wilson, former President of Norfolk State University; Norfolk City Councilman Paul Riddick; Mr. Jonathan Zur, President/CEO Virginia Center For Inclusive Communities; and Captain Wilbur Douglass, U.S. Navy (Ret).
Additionally, five college bound seniors will be awarded $1,000 scholarships for their academic achievement.
Organizers say the purpose of this breakfast is to bring together men in the Hampton Roads community to help with decreasing the high school drop out rate of African-American young men and others. Their goal is to attract 900 men in attendance.
