CBC Diversity Task Force To Address Opportunity for Blacks in Tech Industry
WASHINGTON, D.C.
The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) last week (May 19) launched CBC TECH 2020, a new initiative aimed at engaging the tech sector in increasing African American representation and inclusion in the industry.
CBC members will encourage the industry to use the same entrepreneurial spirit they use when creating new technologies to become innovators in diversifying tech. During the launch event, CBC members outlined diversity principles, discussed industry best practices, highlighted African American students and entrepreneurs, and presented legislation focused on increasing STEM education.
Rep. G. K. Butterfield (NC), CBC Chairman, and Rep. Barbara Lee (CA), Co-Chair, are heading the Diversity Taskforce. Five CBC members acomprise the taskforce. They are Rep. Maxine Waters (CA); Rep. Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA); Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (TX); Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, II (MO); and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (NY).
