Nat Turner Weekend Planned In Southampton County

SOUTHAMPTON, VA
NAT TURNER DAY weekend will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 18-19th on Nat Turner’s birth land in Southampton County, Virginia. This year infuses the first-ever NAT TURNER LIBRARY MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL into the annual celebration.
Entertainers and performers will take the pilgrimage from around the country to donate their talents to benefit the maintenance and preservation of Nat Turner’s historic ancestral birth land in Drewryville, Virginia. Buses and vans from New York to Charlotte will take the pilgrimage to converge on this sacred land to celebrate and preserve Nat Turner’s Legacy.
Festival performances will include; Jazz, R&B, Hip-Hop, Reggae, African Drum and Dance, Performance Poets, Griots, visual artists and more!
Dr. Umar Johnson will make his annual pilgrimage to speak at this celebration.
New York Times Best-selling Author, Omar Tyree, will perform share his lyrical talents as CEO of Hot Lava Entertainment, performing his single “Black Panther”.
Notable entertainers like international jazz artist Plunky Branch, a relative of Nat Turner and a Virginia native, will perform. Conscious hip-hop artist Cambatta from the Bronx, NY who will perform from his latest chart-toppers “The Holy Ghost” and “Black Magic.”
An African Marketplace will feature cultural merchandise by Black artisans and vendors. Sunday performances include jazz, African drumming and dancing, Griots, and guests will experience a guided Nat Turner War Trail Heritage Tour by Elder Khalifah.
