Rebecca’s Well: Part II – The Need For The Wilderness
by Dr. Rebecca R. Rivka
(Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) Tomorrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea. (Numbers 14:25) KJV Wilderness experiences can be defined further as seasons of misunderstandings, suffering, shame, grief and disappointments; Times that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life. (1st Corinthians 1:8)
• Black panthers with claws to claw our way through the mess of the devil.
• Black bats so we can hang tough when the going gets rough.
• We are given owl eyes to see the hand of God as He guides us along life’s way.
• Hind’s feet so we can climb high mountains trying to get home.
• Finally, the wilderness prepares us for the city. The wild gets us ready to walk in
Jerusalem, just like John.
Some day we shall walk with Jesus in white and sit at the welcome table. We shall see our Savior face to face and tell the story saved by His amazing grace. The song/writer wants to know, “What Did You Do When You Came Out The Wilderness…?” Some said, I came out shouting; others said, I came out praying; some sang, I came out, “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms.” That’s the purpose of the wilderness to understand that we lean and depend only upon our God. That we eat only from the manna from on high. Not the sweet meats of the King’s table. No stopping off in the valley, but only following the Cross of Jesus Christ, the way that leads home. “To Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen” (1 Peter 5:11).
