The National Council of Negro Women Inc.-Tidewater Section recently awarded its 25th annual scholarship to Tanea N. Winston, a 2018 Deep Creek High School graduate, who has a 3.8 grade point average.
The organization’s scholarship program was launched in 2000. It aims to fulfill the legacy of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, the organization’s founder.
Winston plans to become a college professor. At Deep Creek High, she was active in many organizations including the Student Council Association, Key Club International, Ladies of Distinction, pre-professional certification in Education Fundamentals, as well as varsity soccer and cheerleading.
Winston attended Virginia State University’s G.R.O.W. summer teaching program. She serves as a youth advisor at her church, Jesus Christ of Deliverance.
