MEAC basketball update
MSU got 21 points from Tiwian Kendley and 17 from Antonio Gillespie in downing Florida A&M, 77-60 Monday. Kendley, a 6-5 junior guard, is averaging 23.1 points through just 14 games.
NCCU won at home vs. N. C. A&T Saturday (82-59) and on the road at Delaware State Monday (82-74). NCCU’s Patrick Cole continued his hot shooting with 27 points vs. A&T and 28 vs. DelState and is now at 19.6 points per game is just one-tenth of a point behind Jonathan Wade of Norfolk State in MEAC scoring stats.
On the women’s side, Hampton (13-7, 7-0 MEAC) won its only game vs. Coppin State (78-54) to remain undefeated in conference play and in first place. The Lady Pirates are playing without their scoring leader, senior guard Malia Tate-DeFreitas, who was lost for the rest of the season with a torn ACL in the Jan. 14 game vs. Delaware State.
Bethune-Cookman got a big 68-58 win over Norfolk State Saturday to stay in a second-place tie with Howard at 6-1. The Lady Bison got wins over S. C. State (75-57) and Savannah State (55-49). Howard plays at B-CU on Mon., Feb. 6.
