Marriner’s Moment: REconnecting With Our Inner Greatness – Part 2

By Pastor Melvin O. Marriner
Grove Church
Over the years, there has been much discussion about whether people are born to be great or if they become great through circumstance, perseverance, discipline or determination. In the end, perhaps what is most important is one’s ability to believe in himself (and God) enough to strive for greatness. Too often, too many of us function in a space of mediocrity. We do just enough to get by or get through. We operate ‘under the radar’ because we are too busy, too lazy, too fearful or too complacent to put in the time and effort to rise above the status quo. God’s desire for us is NOT to ‘blend in.’ More of us need to stand up and not be afraid to stand out. We need to focus more on pleasing God than pleasing people.
In the bible, Joseph ‘the dreamer’ recognized that God had blessed him. He knew he was destined for greatness, but his life took a detour of twists and turns that appeared contrary to that. Similarly, too often we confine God to what we see or are taught to believe. We don’t connect or reconnect to our greatness because our faith in God – and ourselves – is weak. As Christians, we should not allow anything or anyone to break our spirit or rob us of God’s promises. Our life is greater than our successes or failures. Push through to discover and reconnect with your inner greatness. Know that you are the head and not the tail. Whether it’s taking a night class, switching jobs, starting your own business, joining a ministry or fostering a child – go for it! God has a purpose for your life. Pray about it, pursue it and reconnect with your inner greatness!
Peace and power,
