Norfolk District AME Zion Church To Host Welcome Luncheon
NORFOLK
The Norfolk District is hosting a Welcome Luncheon for Bishop W. Darin Moore and Mrs. Deveita Moore on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Sheraton Waterside Hotel. The Hon. Kenneth Cooper Alexander, Mayor of Norfolk, Cong. Robert C. “Bobby” Scott and Senator-Elect Lionell Spruill, Sr. will be attending this auspicious occasion. All Zionites, churches, friends, and public are cordially invited to attend this free event. Rev. Kenneth W. Crowder, Presiding Elder of the Norfolk District can be contacted at (757) 274-2611.
At the 50th Quadrennial Session of the AME Zion Church, July 20-26, Bishop Moore was elected as the presiding bishop for the Mid-Atlantic Episcopal District that covers Ohio, Virginia, Baltimore, District of Columbia, Allegheny East Tennessee, Barbados, Guyana, and Saint Vincent Island. Under his leadership, Moore said he wants to recall the spiritual heritage of the denomination, noting that it was known as the “freedom church” with members such as Harriett Tubman, Sojourner Truth and Frederick Douglass.
“My freedom agenda will have three components,” he said, “scriptural holiness, social justice, and community transformation.” He is urging members in his jurisdiction, especially in the battleground states of Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio to get involved in the upcoming November 8 General Election through voter registration and education drives. “The presidential election will be decided among those three states,” he said.
