The Virginia African American Cultural Center, Inc. Donates Masks On #GivingTuesdayNow

VIRGINIA BEACH
On May 5, the Virginia African American Cultural Center, Inc. (VAACC) used this year’s #GivingTuesdayNow to address a critical need in the African American senior communities in Virginia Beach. The annual day is a global day of unity and giving designed to help non profits raise funds.
Under the theme HIGH 5 GIVE $5, the VAACC donated 700 masks to four following facilities: Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Tranquility at the Lakes, seniors assisted apartments; the Virginia Subsidized Apartments Crescent Square for the Homeless, and Kempsville Health and Rehabilitation Center, including their healthcare workers. VAACC ordered 300 more masks to give out the following weekend.
“After all, we are in this together and believe in reaching out to our community who have been disproportionately impacted,” said Dr. Amelia Ross-Hammond, founder of VAACC and Chairwoman of the group’s Board of Directors.
The Virginia African American Cultural Center was founded to collect, preserve, educate and celebrate the achievements of Virginia African American communities from the 1600s to the present.
“But during this unprecedented crisis, we are responding to the needs of our local African American communities and homeless population,” said Dr. Ross-Hammond.
