Virginia Beach NAACP Elects New Leadership
VIRGINIA BEACH
On Monday March 13, 2017, Hampton University graduate and business entrepreneur, Gerald Daniels conducted his first Virginia Beach Branch NAACP meeting as President. In an interesting and unusual series of events, Daniels was elected to the top position by the organization’s local executive committee.
Gerald Daniels, 42, a media and marketing entrepreneur has deep roots in the NAACP. As a young teen, in Richmond, VA, Mr. Daniels was very active in the Richmond branch youth council under youth advisor Mrs. Ora Lomax. Those early years in the organization laid a foundation and passion in the heart of Daniels for advancing the cause of African-Americans that still exist today.
The Virginia Beach branch has been operating continuously for over 70 years. Community successes have highlighted the history of the branch. Some of them have included Virginia Beach city council African-American representation; Williams Farm Recreation Center construction; and the launch of the development of an African-American Cultural Center.
Recently, the local chapter has met with declining membership, awareness, and community impact. These challenges have plagued many other branches around the country. Mr. Daniels has a plan to confront these issues with a fresh perspective to building relationships and community partnerships. The new president looks forward to collaborating with like-minded organizations, like Black BRAND, the Hampton Roads Black chamber affiliate; Hampton Roads Black Caucus; and Virginia Beach Interdenominational Ministers Conference.
Daniels has begun to build his leadership team and is interested in working with all who desire revitalizing the Virginia Beach branch. One of the many early tasks that he has initiated is a relaunch of the branch website. Communication is key to membership growth, influence and impact, says Gerald Daniels. The relaunch of the website is set for April 1, 2017. Visit the site then and learn more about upcoming events, the new vision, plan, and direction Mr. Gerald Daniels has for the Virginia Beach branch of the NAACP.
The general body meetings are every 2nd Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at 870 North Newtown Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
