Theater Night At The Wells

The New Journal and Guide hosted a night at Norfolk’s Wells Theatre for the showing of “The Parchment Hour” last Saturday night. A private reception in the lobby preceded the performance which was a collaboration between the Virginia Stage Company and the Norfolk State University Theatre Company. Written and directed by Mike Wiley, “The Parchman Hour” provided a compelling testament to the heroic efforts of the 1961 Freedom Riders, young people who dared defy the resistance of several southern states that themselves defied federal rulings declaring discriminatory practices in public transportation as unconstitutional.
