Taste of Hampton Roads In Portsmouth

HAMPTON ROADS
Olde Towne Portsmouth was the first site of this year’s Taste of Hampton Roads to benefit the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore. On Saturday September 29, participating restaurants on High Street welcomed ticketed diners to sample their food and raise funds for the Foodbank.
On October 6, downtown Norfolk restaurants will host the second food tasting benefit; and on October 21, Virginia Beach restaurants will be the third site.
The Taste of Hampton Roads event has been going on for a number of years, but last year, a new spin was put on it. Rather than gathering restaurants in a single location for a food sampling, the Foodbank decided to take the diners to the cities where the restaurants were located.
Saturday’s strolling outdoor event along Portsmouth’s High Street gave diners time to rev up an appetite as they visited Humboldt Steel Corp., Yoolks on Us Southern Bistro, Copper and Oak Craft Spirits (spirits only), Gosport Tavern, Stellar Wine Co., Roger Brown’s Restaurant and Sports Bar, Scoops Ice Cream & Cafe, and Jimmy John’s.
On hand to greet diners and volunteers who worked the three-house event was Executive Director Dr. Ruth Jones Nichols and staff members. Along the way, volunteers gave out information about the Foodbank’s services and impact on eliminating hunger.
