Second Calvary Baptist To Hold Declutter Challenge and Community Action Day

Special to the New Journal and Guide

NORFOLK
Do you have clutter? Are there items in your home or office that you vowed to keep but never use? Second Calvary Baptist Church challenges you to unclutter your life. You can also secure yourself and your family’s identity. On May 21, 2016, the church will host a Spring Declutter Challenge at 2940 Corprew Ave. Church leaders and the Ministry of Social Justice are calling all neighbors to come out to Second Calvary Baptist Church to fellowship with spring fun and refreshments from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring your sensitive documents for shredding. Services will be provided by SHRED-IT, and are open to the public.

There has been an increase in identity theft over the past few years and we want to help end this trend. We, as a community of faith, believe we are called by the Lord to help protect our neighbors and their lives from the wickedness of theft and chaos. People are preyed upon, especially the elderly, by criminals who desire to turn our lives upside down by taking our hard earned good names and identities and utilize them for ill-gotten gains and personal profit.

We invite you out to Second Calvary Baptist Church Annex to share in fun and declutter your life of piles of chaos waiting to happen. Don’t let what you’ve worked for be taken away. Bring your old credit card statements, phone bills, doctor bills, and items of sensitive nature and watch them go away in a secure and blessed setting. In preparation for the November general election, we are calling on all persons whose voting rights were recently restored by Governor Terry McAuliffe to come out for registration to be counted in the next election. The church will also conduct a Virginia State Voter Registration. A State Issued ID is required.

We are committed to turning all facets of our lives away from chaos and control by lifting our voice through voting. Many of our ancestors gave their lives for the right to vote and we owe them the honor of making a difference in this country and world by continuing the fight for freedom and justice for every citizen. Proceeds from your donation of $20 for any size container of documents and a canned non-perishable item will go toward the food bank and ministry. Come out on May 21, 2016, and help reduce identity theft, feed the hungry, and stand up for justice.
