Science Museum of Virginia Holding Free Festival

To learn how to prepare for a community-wide emergency, attend the free PrepareAthon festival at the Science Museum of Virginia that will held in Richmond on Aug. 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event will include numerous exhibits. Visitors will receive free resources, prizes, and tips on how to prepare before disaster strikes. The event includes presentations about climate and weather, including a talk by NBC 12 meteorologist Megan Wise, as well as science demonstrations throughout the day, numerous hands-on activities, and special challenges.
“Experts will discuss the impacts of climate change on human health, the environment, and the Chesapeake Bay,” festival planners noted in a recent statement. “There will be special presentations and workshops throughout the day on a variety of topics, from rain barrels to extreme weather to building a preparedness kit. A number of exhibitors from across the state will be onsite providing information, resources, and giveaways. Plus, be one of the first 300 guests to complete a scavenger hunt and you could win a prize that will help you be ready when a disaster strikes!”
The event is supported by an award from the Environmental Literacy Grant program of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, US Department of Commerce.
