Rebecca’s Well: Rebecca’s Well (Origin of the title)
I was so gratefully surprised and elated that someone would think and write something so inspiringly, beautiful and spiritual about me that I have kept the poem all these years.
Surely it was the working of DIVINE PROVIDENCE and GOD knew many years later that I would need Deborah’s poem to inspire me to write this column in the New Journal and Guide.
The poem draws upon the wells of living water(s) in scripture:
(1) “She saw a well of water;”
(Gen. 21:19)
(2) “Spring up O well;”
(Num. 21:17)
(3) “Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem,”
(2 Sam 23:15)
(1 Chr. 11:17,18)
(4) “The mouth of a righteous man (or woman) is a well of life”
(Pro. 10:11)
(5) “Who passing through the valley of Baca (place of weeping or tears) make it a well.”
(Ps. 84:6)
(6) “Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of Salvation.”
(Isa. 12:3)
(7) “No Jacob’s well was there, Jesus therefore, being wearied with His journey, sat thus on the well:”
(John 4:6-12)
(8) Jesus said, “whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”
(John 4:13,14)
(9) “…If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake He of the Spirit…)”

This is my testimony. When I sit down to write Rebecca’s Well, it is like a river of Living Water in me, in which God is in the midst and wills His Word to flow by the Holy Spirit through me and out from me into the community of the readership of the New Journal and Guide.

There are those
who thirst
for Hearing/
There are those
who thirst
for Love/
There are those
who thirst
for Harmony
not know which way
to turn/
“But God”
has prepared a place
for them
and
it is here
they will thirst
no more/
because:
His Word
is in this water
and
His Will
is in the Word
God has stirred up the Gift
in the Preacher
so
that
those who drink
will thirst
no more/
God has stirred up the Gift

no more
for
HIM.
