Portsmouth Sigma Chapter Hosts First Fundraising Event
PORTSMOUTH
The newly reactivated and revitalized Alpha Beta Sigma Alumni Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Portsmouth, Va., hosted their first Annual Scholarship Rhomania on June 7, 2015 at Tabernacle Christian Church, Shepherd’s Center in Suffolk, VA. Blue and gold floral decorations graced each table as over 170 guests were pleasantly greeted.
Our Sorors were outstanding in welcoming the guests to our first annual fundraising event. It was our pleasure to present our first scholarship in the amount of $2,000 to Rhoer Meagan Whitfield, (graduate of Lakeland High School) as well as a check for $100 for the Line of Pride recognition.
This event and single scholarship amount was determined and awarded to this outstanding young lady because of her devoted time, effort and energy to the sorority for 15 years of uninterrupted service to Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Meagan appeared pleasantly surprised as she received the well-deserved recognition. Delta Beta Sigma Basileus, Soror Sylvania Preston, shared glowing remarks of Rhoer Meagan.
A diversity of talents entertained our guests. First, Ms. Turquoise Daughtry of LWA Dance Company entertained us with her creative ballet, followed by the strong voice of Ms. Aime Powell. Local entertainers, The Michael Carson Band, “N-Treque,” provided pre, during, and post dinner entertainment. Alex Scott, a comedian, who has performed on Comedy Central and BET, as well as locally, changed the tempo and brought a smile to the faces of many.
Finally, the proud mother of Meagan Whitfield, Soror Francine Jackson, concluded the program with closing remarks.
