Oct. 3: Norfolk NAACP To Observe 58th Freedom Fund Celebration

NORFOLK

The Norfolk NAACP will observe its 58th Annual Life Membership  and Freedom Fund event with a luncheon at noon on October 3 at the Murray Center, 455 Brambleton Avenue in Norfolk. The theme for this year’s  celebration is “Pursuing Liberty in the Face of Injustice.” 

 The guest keynote speaker for this year’s celebration is Mrs. Denise Sterling Gallop, Assistant  Director for the Norfolk Department of Human Services.   Brenda H. Andrews, Owner and Publisher of the New Journal & Guide Newspaper, is the  Mistress of Ceremonies. 

Mrs. Gallop’s unique blend of real life experiences and professional training have served  her well for over 20 years providing services supporting children, families and  communities.  She has held a wide range of human service roles to include Residential  Treatment Counselor, Emergency Services Clinician, Hospital Social Worker, Child  Welfare Social Worker, Intensive In-home Services Counselor, National Therapeutic 

Foster Care Director, Comprehensive Services Act (CSA) Administrator, Deputy  Director of the Hampton, Virginia Department of Human Services, all which have prepared her for her current position as the Assistant Director for the Norfolk, Virginia  Department of Human Services. 

The Norfolk Branch NAACP will present two $500 Scholarships to graduating seniors  from the Norfolk Public Schools System, The Melinease Hutchinson Scholarship Award  and the James Julian Smith Scholarship Award.
