NSU Celebrates 2018 Homecoming Week

NORFOLK
Norfolk State University’s 2018 Homecoming Celebration opened its week-long activities on Sunday October 14 with a Gospel Show featuring national recording artist  Artist KiKi Sheard.  The Detroit native transformed the Joe Echols Hall stage as she invited all the serious shouters in the “congregation”  to join her on stage to help usher in the spirit.

The 31-year-old  Wayne State University English/Psychology graduate  danced, shouted and gave the  audience sage words of wisdom throughout her performance. The NSU Student Government bought together an awesome array of gospel talent as opening acts for Ms. Sheard, including the Gethsemane Community Fellowship’s Mass Choir, NSU Alumni Chior, the NuWave, and the Second Calvary Baptist Church Chior.

Other university and public events are taking place this week leading to the NSU Homecoming Parade and Football game on Saturday, October 20 when NSU will play North Carolina Central at 2 p.m.

On Sunday, October 21, a gospel concert featuring Richard Smallwood & Vision will conclude Homecoming 2018. It takes place at 5 p.m. at the Wilder Performing Center.

Alumni activities at the Norfolk Division of Virginia State College (VSC) began on November 28, 1949 when the Norfolk Division of Virginia State College Alumni Association was formally organized. At that time, one game during football season was designated as Homecoming and this concept has become increasingly successful as time passed.

Each year over 20,000 alumni, students, friends and community partners come back to participate in this multifaceted celebration that has fostered a long legacy of fellowship, entertainment and Spartan pride.
