The Norfolkaires Celebrate 40 Years of Spiritual Praise

NORFOLK
The Norfolkaires celebrated their 40th Anniversary Sunday (April 23) at Macedonia UCC in Norfolk.
The gospel group has reorganized with younger members, and they paid tribute to recently deceased members Elijah Smith-their lead guitar player, and vocalist Vernon Crandal.
The Norfolkaires were originally started by several members of the Hurdle Brothers in the Cavalier Manor area of Portsmouth. Their first hit was “I Shall Not Be Moved.” Sunday’s anniversary program featured the Voices of Victory from Newport News, the Spiritual Crowns of Norfolk, the Word Singers, and the Golden Trumpet of Portsmouth.
