HAMPTON ROADS
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated has always focused on community involvement; therefore, in keeping with its longstanding community service goals, Norfolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. launched its 2017-2018 with two notable community service efforts.
On Thursday, September 21, 2017, Shauna Barringer, President of Norfolk Alumnae Chapter; Cynthia Calhoun, 1st Vice President; Vickie Madison, 2nd Vice President, and several chapter members presented a welcome back- to- school gift to the children at Ingleside Elementary School. The collection of green uniform shirts will benefit the children who attend school in the community. Principal, Dr. Alana Balthazar, received the uniforms during the annual Open House held at Ingleside Elementary. The response from the parents, students, and staff was well- received.
The second service project was held in conjunction with “St. Jude’s Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer,” on a “picture perfect day,” in the beautiful Botanical Gardens, Norfolk, Virginia. On Saturday, September 23, 2017, Team Captain, Stephanie Gordon along with several members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Norfolk Alumnae Chapter, walked, ran, and strolled along the paths of Botanical Gardens and donated money for research in eradicating the deadly diseases that plague many of our children. Through the invitation of the host sponsor, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Team NAC DST participated and donated $505 to support this worthwhile cause. Stephanie Gordon, Chair of the Health Task Force/Project 13 coordinated the event which included charitable donations from family, members, and friends.
