NFL Settles Handily With Colin Kaepernick & Eric Reid, C. Panther

After more than two years, the NFL and Colin Kaepernick have reached an undisclosed financial settlement that included Carolina Panthers star safety Eric Reid.

The former NFL quarterback and the league have been at odds over Kaepernick’s claim that league owners had Blacklisted him from playing football for kneeling during the national anthem.

Kaepernick, who led the San Franciso 49ers to a Super Bowl in 2003, was fired after he began kneeling in 2016 during the national anthem to protest police brutality and other social ills. He has not been employed by any team since then.

A statement released by both parties read: “For the past several months, counsel for Mr. Kaepernick and Mr. Reid have engaged in an ongoing dialogue with representatives of the NFL.

“As a result of those discussions, the parties have decided to resolve the pending grievances. The resolution of this matter is subject to a confidentiality agreement so there will be no further comment by any party.”

Kaepernick had alleged that since 2016, the league conspired to keep him out. His kneeling protest has been adopted by other NFL players, also hoping to draw attention to social justice and racial inequality issues
