Newport News Links Host Annual Scholarship Event

NEWPORT NEWS
The Newport News Links, Inc. held its 2016-2017 Program and Scholarship Celebration on June 11 on the campus of Thomas Nelson Community College.
The annual event serves as an occasion to recognize young men participating in the mentorship program of the Hampton/Newport News (Alumni) Chapter Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi who are graduating from the Young Achievers’ Program.
This year six graduating high school students were recognized: Keshawn Battle-Patterson, Brandon Davis, Najee Frazier, Jordan Green, Stephan Pickett, and Antonio Pressley, Jr.
Keynote speaker Dr. Earle Williams offered advice from the theme of “Resilence.”
Williams, a forensics psychologist, gave eight tips on living successfully to include believing in yourself; controlling your behavior; having empathy for others; and reaching out to others to help you.
A highlight of the program was the poetry reading of Hampton University student Dayvondria Braxton, EA Young Master Writer Award recipient.
Also featured was vocalist Jocelyn Best who rendered musical selections from her album.
