Alexander, Chairman, Board of Directors, noted that the Dr. William E. Ward and Family Scholarship was created in 2018 to honor Dr. Ward’s legacy as a model family man and citizen; contribution to economic growth in the city of Chesapeake; his service as a distinguished college professor and political liaison for Norfolk State University; founding member of the Foundation; and his philanthropy.

He further noted the achievements of the Foundation in providing scholarships, school supply grants and mentoring services since its establishment in 2010. Dr. George F. Reed, secretary, indicated that the Foundation had provided more than $135,000.00 in scholarships to high school graduates and educational grants to Title I elementary and middle school students.

The  scholarship  was  conceptualized by Dr. Rose M. Ward in partnership with the Foundation. She contributed the seed money to initiate the scholarship and her desire is to expand the scholarship to aid more students. The scholarship is available to Chesapeake graduates who will be attending one of the Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).

Dr. Ward viewed herself as planting a seed that she hopes will grow and expand as people make donations to the fund. You can make donations to the scholarship fund at thencmpeduf.org on the donate button. All donations are tax deductible.

The Foundation will administer the scholarship which is designated for students who will be attending one of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).  The Scholarship fund will be maintained as a separate fund to grow into an amount to create an endowed scholarship fund. In addition to family members making contributions to the fund, individuals, corporations and community organization leaders are encourage to further the vision of the late Dr. William E. Ward by donating to the fund.
