Mrs. Emma Tyree Celebrates 95 Years

Submitted by Julius McCullough
Emma B. Tyree, who was born on September 8, 1922, celebrated her 95th birthday on September 2, 2017 with gold balloons hovering above her at the head table. What a wonderful occasion to have family and friends join her for a day of celebration of life and remembrance.
Family and friends from North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, New Jersey, North Dakota, Texas, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Maryland, and Virginia met at the Double Tree by Hilton in Norfolk, VA on September 2nd to help Emma celebrate a glorious milestone.
Friends from the Golden Age Ministries of New Calvary Baptist Church, Garden of Prayer #3, and old and new neighbors were amongst a host of family helping her celebrate.
As part of Emma’s remembrance during this wonderful event, her daughter Evelyn spoke of how her mother taught them to be entrepreneurs by having her children deliver The Journal and Guide Newspaper, selling donuts, and saving after you have covered your overhead expenses.
Emma’s great niece Mary presented her with a card signed by family from Windsor, North Carolina where she was raised.
After moving from Windsor to Virginia, Mrs. Tyree met and married William Tyree. Of that union, they created a family of eight children.
Emma has seen and experienced a lot over her 95 years and continues to give words of wisdom to everyone she meets. As a community volunteer, she would go door to door encouraging people to register to vote and also she volunteered at the voting polls. Her signature act of kindness to this day is to give handkerchiefs or gold toe socks to family, friends, and strangers she meets. She even presented gifts to her special friends at her birthday party.
As a care giver, she enjoyed a career of taking care of the sick and elderly.
We celebrate Emma’s 95 years of love, care giving, and wisdom.
