May 28: Know Your Rights! Seminar To Be Held In Norfolk
NORFOLK
The United States Constitution is the country’s oldest ever written document and outlines all of the laws and privileges granted to citizens of the United States and the power of its government. Dr. Vivian Anderson, an advocate for social justice, has undertaken a mission to inform Hampton Roads citizens of their rights under the Constitution and is hosting a program on May 28 at 7 p.m. at the House of Consciousness located at 633 35th Street.
The program, “Know Our rights: the U.S. Constitutional Rights and the 1964 Civil Rights Act” is designed to educate you about the documents and the civil rights and privileges it provides you. Dr. Anderson will explain the history and the purpose of not only the Constitution but the Bill of Rights, which is comprised of the first ten amendments to the Constitution which spell out a citizen’s right to free speech and right to a file trial and others. Also find out how you can secure documents from the your local and state government agencies using the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. The event is free and open to the public.
