Marriner’s Moment: REnewing the Spirit, Soul and Body – Part 3

By Pastor Melvin O. Marriner
Grove Church
Many of us tend to spread ourselves thin, taking care of family, work and our many responsibilities. Ultimately – without rest and renewal – ministry takes its toll on all of us. In Matthew 11:28-29 (NLT) Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” And, while we know this, sometimes it is difficult to let go long enough to take care of ourselves – especially those of us who have a real heart for people and a desire to see people do better so they can live their best lives.
When we are not well and whole – physically, mentally and spiritually, we can’t give our best to others or to God. Here are a few suggestions to help you renew your spirit, soul and body:
• Break away from multi-tasking (learn to steal away and take time to relax).
• Set priorities so others and things don’t invade the time you need to spend with God. If you know your day is going to be hectic, don’t skip the most important part – spending time in prayer and the Word of God.
• Embrace a ‘Kingdom priority’ mindset. In other words, seek the Kingdom of God first. Make Him the priority and it will set the standard for the day.
• Prune excessive baggage. Everyone’s priority or emergency does not have to be yours. Pray to God and ask Him for direction. If He has called you to it, He will equip you for it.
Peace and power.
