Kappas Take Area Youth to NSU Annual Exhibition Game

The Norfolk (VA) Alumni Chapter, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Guide Right Program Director, John “JP” Paige and Kappa League Coordinator, Hughes Valmond, invited all of the Eastern Province of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Region 5 Guide Right Programs to “just show up” April 5, 2016, for the annual exhibition baseball game at Harbour Park between the Norfolk Tides and Norfolk State University.
Although Norfolk State University was unsuccessful in its quest for a win, the kids and Kappas had a great time. More than 100 youth, parents, and mentors showed up. Kids from the Huntersville neighborhood, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, and Chesapeake, Azalea Garden Middle School, churches, and several small business were admitted free, and were provided refreshments and food. The purposes of the field trip for youth were to expose as many kids as possible to athletic completion in line with Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity National Guide Right Program goals. Additionally, it provides opportunities for adult mentors to engage youth in positive and constructive ways, and at the same time enjoy an evening fun.
More than 25 Kappa mentors accompanied the group of kids to include Anthony O. Walters, Jr., Polemarch of Norfolk, VA) Alumni Chapter; William H. Milligan, III, President, NAC-Save Our Youth Foundation, Inc. George F. Reed, Clarence F. Nelson, Jr., Earling Hunter; Cornelius Hudgins, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. National Chairman, Kappa Sunday of Hope Partnership with St. Jude Research Hospital, Lincoln Spicely, L. Darnell Spicely, Terry Woodhouse; James Settles, William Brooks, John Washington, Richard Andrews, Donald Larrimore, and Dr. Elie Bracy, Superintendent, Portsmouth City Public Schools.
