June 17: Juneteenth 2017 Event In Chesapeake
CHESAPEAKE
“Who Are You?” is the theme for Juneteenth 2017 organized and sponsored by Ernest Lowery, owner of Lowery’s Custom Video and Photography. This free family event will take place on Saturday, June 17, at the New Hope Center, 1425 Gust Lane, Chesapeake, VA 23323 from 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
Emceeing the program will be Regina Royster, accompanied by Herman Hurston. This is a family event with the intent to entertain and mobilize.
The scheduled line up of speakers and performers include:
Greetings from the City of Chesapeake by Honorable Cliff Hayes – 77th House District.
“Educational / Statistics That Will Alarm You” by Dr. Darnell Johnson, Professor Elizabeth City State University
“What About The Law?” by Attorney Elliott Moody / Moody & Associates
“Nat Turner / A True Story” by Dijon McLntyre
“When Muppets Speak” by James Copper, Puppet master
“Juneteenth – A Historical View” by Dr. E. Curtis Alexander – Curator of the Bell Mills Historical Research and Restoration Society
“The Man Behind the Mic (Do you know the facts?)” by Reverend Joseph Hassell
Entertainment will be provided by Regina Scott Sanford, Tonie Sheeley (AKA Quite Storm) and Dee Polite ( Phenomenal Sound)
This year’s Co-Sponsors are Ernest Lowery, Lowery’s Custom Video & Photography; Brenda Andrews, Owner -Publisher/ New Journal & Guide; and New Chesapeake Men for Progress Education Foundation, Inc.
