July 25: Hampton Roads National Dance Day
NORFOLK
In promotion of an especially novel and inventive way to encourage good health and reduce obesity in Hampton Roads, Dancin 4 a Cure, Inc. (D4aC), in association with the Norfolk Department of Public Health, is staging the 1st Annual Hampton Roads National Dance Day.
This creative exercise event will take place at the Palm Gardens Restaurant, 5957 East Virginia Beach Boulevard, Norfolk, on Saturday, July 25, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free program will feature dance demonstrations, blood pressure checks, health education workshops, and other fun activities.
National Dance Day was launched in 2010 by Nigel Lythgoe, a former producer of Fox Television’s American Idol; co-creator and co-executive producer of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, and co-founder of the Dizzy Feet Dance Foundation. That same year, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) introduced a resolution to the U.S. Congress to adopt National Dance Day to promote dance education and physical fitness. The first Washington, D.C. observance was staged on the National Mall. Hampton Roads National Dance Day will be the first event of its kind produced in Virginia.
Dancin 4 a Cure, Inc., is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, concerned with promoting exercise and good health through dance. It is producing the 1st Annual Hampton Roads National Dance Day event to demonstrate the benefits of dancing as a fun form of exercise, increasing health awareness and disease prevention.
