Legendary television pioneer Jayne Kennedy headlined an awards program Sunday June 14 hosted by Medicine & Music — Healing, Hope, and Harmony, Inc.

The non-profit organization, founded by husband and wife team Dr. Abraham Teklu, MD, and Dee-Dee Teklu, presented its inaugural First Circle of Care Honors at the Hilton Norfolk The Main, where Kennedy, along with three Hampton Roads trailblazing citizens, received medallions.

Those honored were Rev. Dr. Yvonne V. Delk, the first African American woman ordained in the United Church of Christ; Christopher Tan — President & CEO, Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore; and Captain Carol Adams, Founder, Carol Adams Foundation.

Kennedy made history as the first African American woman to co-host a network sports broadcast, breaking barriers on CBS’s The NFL Today.

As part of the program, Kennedy signed copies of her new memoir Plain Jane.
