Iotas’ Black History Program Will Celebrate Achievements of Women

The Alpha Chi Chapter of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, a business and professional woman organization, presents “Black Women in American Culture & History” on February 18, 2012 at 3 p.m. The annual Black History program will be held at Indian River Public Library located at 2320 Old Greenbrier Rd., Chesapeake at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be Brenda H. Andrews, publisher and owner of The New Journal and Guide, the oldest African American newspaper in Virginia.

 

Musical entertainment and re-inactment of Ida B. Wells, journalist, newspaper editor, women suffragist and crusader of justice, will be presented. A celebratory recognition will immediately follow the program to acknowledge Dr. Evelyn Sears Peevy, retired editor of The Social & Civic Whirl of The New Journal & Guide.

 

Light refreshment will be served. The program is free and open to the public.  Dress in your finest African or ethnic attire. For more information called 757-543-3820.
