Inspirational Message: Jesus Was Challenged to Identify Himself!

During the public ministry of Jesus, He asked His Disciples: ”Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am/” (Matthew 16:13). It was not the Lord’s words, but what people were saying that made local reports. More challenging, undoubtedly was Jesus’ next question: “But who do you say that I am (Matt. 16:15).?

During the public ministry of Jesus, He asked His Disciples: ”Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am/” (Matthew 16:13).  It was not the Lord’s words, but what people were saying that made local reports.  More challenging, undoubtedly was Jesus’ next question: “But who do you say that I am (Matt. 16:15).?  His questions is the disciples express convictions and faith about the Lord Jesus.

Will everyone have to answer the same questions?  Will we have to decide individually who Jesus is in our world?  It may not help to repeat what others say or believe, the answer must be genuinely our own personal conviction!  Let us continue to seek answers to these questions on the basis of what Jesus Himself said and did.  Let us always aim to conclude by faith just as Peter did that He is the Christ, the Son of the living God!

What was His mission?  How does Scripture present Jesus to us?  He is presented as a human being who was born as a baby who grew up as a child with an ordinary family.  Read His complete story in all of the Gospels. Mark 10: 45 tells us that He did not come to be served, but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many.

In our battles with temptations and sins, why is it important for us to know about the humanity of Jesus Christ?  Is it comforting to know that Jesus came to us fully human and divine?  The deity of Christ is the foundation of our faith.  A clear message about the deity of Christ is found in His assertion of preexistence by saying He came down from heaven. (John 3:13) because the Father sent him (John 5:23).  Then again He reaffirmed His preexistence by saying to the Father to glorify Him too with the glory that existed before the world was created (John 17:5)!  Jesus announced Himself to be self-existent eternally.  To the religious leaders of His time, He was guilty of blasphemy and therefore they wanted to stone Him (John 8:59).

The Gospels show us that Jesus accepted worship from others.  This, too revealed His deity.  The blind man healed (John 9:38), the women at the tomb of Jesus (Matt. 28:9) and the disciples at Galilee (Matt. 28:17) all worshiped Him openly.  Thomas, without doubt, said “My Lord and My God!,” as he recognized the Father – Son relationship.  Most importantly, Jesus said in clear terms that He came to seek and to save that which was lost.  He forgave us our sins and gives us eternal life!
