Hampton University held its 149th Commencement Exercises at the Convocation Center and other satellite locations on campus on Mother’s Day Sunday (May 12). The relocation from Armstrong Stadium was prompted by an inclement weather forecast by local meteorologists. This year’s keynote speaker was Hampton alum Lt. Gen. Darrell K. Williams, who challenged the Class of 2019 to use their skills to make the world a better place. He also urged the graduates to remain strong under pressure. Outstanding Alumnus-at-Large Awards were presented to Dr. Christine Darden, Mr. Clarence Pearson, and Dr. Lekecia Glover. In his closing remarks, President Harvey charged the students to be thankful of the help they have received during their educational journey; and he urged them to stay grounded morally.
