Good News For NSU: Fall Enrollment Projections Are Trending Upward

NORFOLK
Norfolk State University has received more than 6,200 applications from first-time freshman and nearly 1,000 applications from transfer students for the 2016-17 academic year, according to early estimates from the Office of Enrollment Management.

The university projects to enroll more than 1,500 freshmen and transfer students at the 80-year-old higher education institution for the upcoming academic year beginning on Aug. 20. Preliminary data shows the university has admitted 3,253 freshmen, more than twice the number of freshman during the same time period one year ago.

Dr. Michael Shackleford, NSU’s new associate vice president of enrollment management, indicated that overall, NSU’s early enrollment projection for the fall 2016 semester is around 5,100 students, but there is potential to exceed that number, he said.

“We’ve been working hard to recruit students and let them know about the benefits of an NSU education,” Shackleford said. “We offer high-quality degree programs, in the classroom and online, for traditional and non-traditional students.

“Furthermore, Norfolk State is one of the most affordable institutions in the Commonwealth of Virginia.”
NSU is ranked as the second lowest in net price of the four-year public institutions in Virginia according to the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics College Navigator.
