Epicureans Honor Navy’s First Black Seal

Very recently, the Norfolk Chapter National Epicureans, Inc. (a national social entity) honored one of their own. The more than 24-chapter group of women takes pride in its heritage, as members’ roots emanate from the early 50’s, and are anchored in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

For well over 25 years the chapter hosts a dinner dance held during the month of February. One of the highlights of this year’s gala was the presentation of its Path Finder’s Award, given to William H. Goines. Mr. Goines is the nation’s first black Navy Seal.

The Seals are the U.S. Navy’s principal special operations force and a part of the Naval Special Warfare Command (NSWC) as well as the maritime component of the United States Special Operations Command.

Although retired, Goines continues serving our country. Currently he visits college campuses in an effort to recruit black men for the Seals. Chapter president Eleanor Batts Brown expressed the community’s gratitude for the services this giant among men continues to provide.
