Circulation Services Assistant $11.87/hour +

Part-Time County Benefits; part-time regular position available (20 hours / week) varied schedule includes mornings, afternoons, evenings, and/or weekends.

Job alternates between James City County Library and Williamsburg Regional Library.

Responsibilities: Provide public service at the circulation desk performing all related tasks; answer circulation and directional questions, operate cash register; transfer funds from register to safe, and reconcile daily receipts. Use automated library software to charge out library materials; process user records; determine material status, locate resources within the system and arranges for transfer of materials, places items on reserve, register new users, and run computer reports as required. Verify and send overdue notices, receive and record overdue fines, send related correspondence as needed, process lost/damaged library materials to technical services, and resolve user records and problem files. Assist with opening and closing the library; check in, sort, and shelve library materials as needed; may schedule and supervise circulation services volunteers.

Requirements: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree and some library or bookstore experience. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service including setting and meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction; personal computer operations. Skill in excellent written and verbal communication; and use of computer software, especially Microsoft Office Suite and other computer software needed to perform tasks. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public; type and file accurately; independently organize work, set priorities, use time effectively, and meet deadlines; follow through on details; maintain records in a standard, orderly, and systematic fashion.

Recreation Operations Coordinator $ 44,104/year +

Full-Time County Benefits; 40 hours/weekly. Position works afternoon/evenings (12pm-9pm) and weekends (Saturdays) and may cover other shifts as needed.

The James City County Parks and Recreation Department is seeking an enthusiastic leader with high professionalism and the ability to work in a team environment to develop, manage, implement and evaluate recreation activities at the James City County Recreation Centers.

Responsibilities: Responsible for the effective supervision of assigned staff and volunteers including selection, performance management, employee relations, training, prioritizing and assigning work and related activities. Manage the operations and service delivery of County-wide comprehensive programming to include fitness, aquatics, and senior programs. Assists in the development, coordinates, and oversees capital/special projects, cooperative agreements, facility schedules, facility reservations, programs/events and fiscal transactions. Assists in development of procedures, guidelines, rules, and regulations for the operation of the recreation facilities. Prepare, develop and monitor the annual budget, performance measures and statistics, program and service evaluations, marketing efforts and other daily administrative functions for multiple program locations. Represent the Department on committees, community agency boards, and councils and establish cooperative programming with other agencies and human service organizations.

Requirements: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in recreation or related field, preferably from a National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) accredited college or university. Must possess or obtain within 6 months of hire a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate and a First Aid Certificate from the American Red Cross. Must possess or obtain within 6 months of hire a Certified Pool Operator or an Aquatic Facility Operator Certificate. Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. Considerable experience in recreation program planning, implementation, and evaluation, and leading and supervising diverse staff and volunteers; or any equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience. Post-offer requirements include a drug screen, credential, criminal history, CPS Registry, driving record and sex offender checks. Post-hire requirements include tuberculosis test, Medicine Administration Training (MAT), Diabetes Administration Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Certification.
