Dr. Evelyn Sears Peevy; Retired Columnist Honored
On February 16th, Dr. Evelyn Sears Peevy, retired columnist and educator, celebrated her 89th birthday. She chose an intimate and lively luncheon with family and close friends at her home in the Poplar Halls section of Norfolk. The caterer, Mrs. Ruth Smith of Norfolk, prepared a scrumptious repast that included some of Mrs. Peevy’s favorites including sweet potato casserole and baked salmon. A special chocolate birthday cake spelled out “Blessed to be 89.”
Daughters Eunice Joseph and Pat Taylor served as hostesses at the special celebration.
Born in Olde Huntersville, Norfolk, Mrs. Peevy was the seventh of fifteen children of the late William H. and Eunice M Sears. During her adult years, she has been a true community leader and worker and a great mentor. This Christian woman is still working in her church, the historic First Baptist Church, Bute Street; working with local and national organizations; and being a true public servant.
May you have many more years of happiness and active participation in the Hampton Roads community.
