December 10: “Feeding 1000 Holiday Feast and Community Celebration” Planned For Newport News

Andrew Shannon Gospel Music Celebration, the Virginia State Unit of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and Southeast Community Day Planning Committee will host the “Feeding 1000 Holiday Feast and Community Celebration” on Saturday, December 10, 2016 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. The event will be held at the C. Waldo Scott Center located at 3100 Wickham Avenue, Newport News, Virginia. Elected Officials, Members of the Clergy, business and community leaders, will participate as Celebrity Servers for the “Feeding 1000 Holiday Feast and Community Celebration.”
Citizens who are in need of a meal for the holidays are welcome to attend to enjoy a meal prepared by the specialty cooking staff from The Alley. The event will include special guests the New Generation Marching Band from Portsmouth, Virginia, Pentecostal Followers of Christ Church Choir from Suffolk, Virginia; and Approaching Storm Marching Band from Brooklyn, New York will kick-off the event at 12:00 noon. Entertainment will be provided throughout the course of the day showcasing various talents. All activities are free and open to the public.
Businesses, schools, churches, civic organizations, fraternities/sororities and members of the community have a chance to sow seeds into the community by contributing to this fantastic day of Holiday sharing. Volunteers are needed for this humanitarian effort.
The Southeast Community Day Planning Committee will be accepting contributions of food and/or monetary donations in Newport News, Virginia or you may mail your financial contributions to SCLC, Post Office Box 120002, Newport News, VA 23612.
The “Feeding 1000 Holiday Feast and Community Celebration” is presented by the Andrew Shannon Gospel Music Weekend Celebration, in cooperation with the Virginia State Unit of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and The Southeast Community Day Planning Committee.
