The members of the Chi Beta Chi Social Club recently donated $500 to the School Store of the Richard Bowling Elementary School.

Members of the club, which was founded in 1912, presented a check to the school’s Principal Eric Goodman in the store.

According to Arthur Copeland, a leader of the social club,  the organization adopted Bowling Elementary several  years ago. The recent donation will be used to buy school supplies and other goods sold in the store.

Bowling Elementary School has been rebuilt recently and is located on Princess Anne Road in Norfolk. The principal said  the children earn special credit for exceptional academic work, courtesy and other positive behavior which allows them to shop in the school store.

Access to the store is rotated with students in Pre-K being allowed to patronize the store on Mondays and other grades during other  days in the course of the week.

“It is very important that we make this investment to insure that our young people are prepared for the future,” said Copeland. “As one of the longest social clubs in the city,  we want to make sure all of our children have the supplies and resources they need to get a good quality education.”
