CHESAPEAKE
On Tuesday June 24, Chesapeake Sheriff Dave Rosado issued a statement following the Republican Primary, announcing his intention to continue his campaign for re-election through a write- in campaign this November:
“I’m not conceding. I’m not stepping aside. And I’m not going to pretend that what just happened in Chesapeake was fair,” Sheriff Dave Rosado said.
In the Republican Primary on June 17, over 12,000 votes casted for a position that serves over 253,000 residents. Because there were no Democratic or Independent candidates on the ballot in November, voters who participated in the Democratic primary or received a Democratic ballot had no say in choosing the next Sheriff.
“That is not a fair process. It’s a power grab. It’s a coronation. And the people of Chesapeake deserve better,” Sheriff Rosado said.
Sheriff Rosado, who has served with distinction and brought modernization, transparency and community trust to the sheriff’s office, say this election was not about experience or qualifications, but about control.
“They didn’t want the most qualified candidate. They wanted someone they could control. I wasn’t that – and I never will be.”
In response, Rosado is officially launching a write-in campaign for Sheriff to ensure that Chesapeake voters still have a voice in who leads their Sheriff’s Office. He also announced his resignation from the Chesapeake Republican Party. The decision wasn’t because his values shifted, but as a stand against a local political system he says failed its residents.
“This wasn’t about the people – it was about the power brokers. I will not stand by while the voices of Chesapeake are silenced,” he said.
“In the coming days and weeks, I will be sharing more about what happened behind the scenes, exposing what others won’t say and laying out our plan to win this campaign – and keep our Sheriff’s Office focused on service, not politics.”
Sheriff Rosado concluded with a call to action for voters across the city “Write in “Dave Rosado” to keep our sheriff. This isn’t over – because the people haven’t had their say.”
