On a cool December 21 evening, the Buffalow Family and Friends hosted its 4th annual Warm and Fuzzy Christmas Coat Giveaway.

The event was held at the Dr. Clarence Cuffee Community Center in Chesapeake from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. There were plenty of volunteers who set up tables, served food, and assisted moms and pops with questions on clothing and toys. The community was very respectful in choosing items for family members ranging in age from babies to the cut-off age of 13.

This year close to 100 people participated in the coat giveaway which also included raffles for bicycles, school supplies and other needed gifts. The main focus was on children’s coats during this time of year to keep them warm and fuzzy. Notably, coats have been a difficult donation item this year.

Everyone was served and had plenty to eat; almost nothing went to waste. The Buffalow Family paid attention to detail in their planing, and at the end of the day, the results were evident.

To help create success for this event, toys were also donated by the community advocacy group, the Chesapeake Family Center.

In attendance were Chesapeake Mayor Alan Krasnoff and Delegate Lionell Spruill, who helped with the raffling off some of the gifts.

In the past four years, the New Journal and Guide has covered many of the Buffalows’ worthy community service events. For more information, check out the Buffalow Family and Friends Facebook page.
